In order to convert a DVD movie so you can watch it on your iPhone or iPod you will need HandBrake, an excellent (and free) video converter available at this link. Once you have downloaded it and installed it, do as follows: 1- Insert the DVD disc. If the DVD Player starts automatically, shut it down. 2- Open HandBrake. A window will appear, asking for the path to the DVD disc. Select the DVD disc and click the "Open" button. 3- After a few seconds, the disc will be scanned and HandBrake will automatically suggest a name and location for the video file you're about to create. You may change this name and location if you wish, clicking the "Browse" button.
4- Click the desirable preset on the preset's drawer to the right of HandBrake's window. Choose iPhone, iPod Video High-Rez or iPod Video Low-Rez, depending on your device. 5- If you wish, you can make adjustments to the standard settings now, but this is optional. You may, for example, select only a range of chapters to be extracted. 6- When you're ready, click the "Start" button to begin the video conversion. Make sure you're not in a hurry, as this process may take many hours to complete. It may be a good idea to let your Mac do the work tonight while you sleep. 7- .When the task is finished, remove the DVD disc and close HandBrake. Open iTunes and import the video file you've just created (File menu > Add to Library). 8- Connect your iPhone/iPod to your computer. iTunes will detect it and show its name on the playlists and devices list on the left. Select from the library the new movie and drag it to iPhone/iPod's name. 9- Select the iPhone/iPod name and click the "Sync" button to start the syncing process. The movie will be transferred, and you'll be able to watch it anytime you want to. |
