Sometimes you may get the following error message when you click on "Empty trash":

"the operation cannot be completed because the item XXXXXXX is locked."

What should you do to get rid of the file(s)?

That's very simple: holding the Option key while clicking "Empty trash" will hopefully do the trick. If that doesn't work, read the following instructions from Apple Support web site:

1- Open a Finder window, and double-click on Terminal inside /Applications/Utilities.

2- On the Terminal window, type: chflags -R nouchg

(Note: type one space after the word "nouchg", so that it ends in "nouchg ") Don't press the Return key yet.

3- Click the Trash icon in the Dock to reveal the its contents. Keep the Terminal window visible, arranging the Finder window if required. Select all files in the Trash by pressing Command+A.

4- Use your mouse to drag the files from the Trash to the Terminal window. This automatically enters the pathname for all files. Then press the Return key (don't worry if nothing seems to happen).

5- Empty the Trash normally.
